At a time when I was deeply engaged in street life and criminal behavior, Manny’s guidance and support provided a beacon of hope and a pathway to redemption. His words resonated with me during my darkest hours and helped shape the man I am today.Despite my troubled adolescence, Manny never gave up on me. He instilled in me lifelong lessons of morality, integrity, dignity, love, and compassion. These lessons have not only guided my personal journey but have also become the cornerstone of my professional career. Today, as a Criminology Professor at DePaul University, I strive to impart the same lesson and values to my students, both in the classroom and at Stateville Prison.

After my 24 year old son passed unexpectedly last summer, I was left despondent with grief, sadness, anger and hopelessness.  In the weeks and months following, Manny was a consistent support by listening and caring with compassion and grace.
